Renee Chen Therapy FAQ
  • You may contact me directly at (415) 335-6678, by emailing me at renee@rxctherapy.com or by sending a message here to schedule a consultation. You can expect to hear back from me within 48 business hours.

I respect and safeguard your privacy and will never disclose your contact information to anyone. By using my contact link, you acknowledge that the contents of your form will be sent to Renee X Chen and understand that you should not use it to provide any protected health information.

  • Depending on the type of therapy, appointments are scheduled for 50 or 75 minutes, most commonly at a frequency of one meeting per week. Depth or analytic psychotherapy is a process that can benefit from more frequent meetings, which is considered on an individual basis.

  • My fees are adjusted over time. They are currently structured as follows:

    Teen or Adult Therapy | 50 minutes | $180

    Couples or Family Therapy | 50 minutes | $225

    Couples or Family Therapy | 75 minutes | $300

Payment is accepted through cash, check or credit card and is due at the end of your appointment.

  • My intention is to balance between making a living for myself and to make therapy more accessible for all. Therefore, I reserve a small number of sliding scale appointments based on availability and need. Please contact me directly to inquire about availability.

If you’d like to work with me and can’t afford my current rate, please feel free to reach out anyway to be put on a waitlist.

  • While I am not on any insurance panels at this time, I can provide you with a “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance carrier for out-of-network reimbursement.

Please check with your health insurance provider to learn about your coverage and reimbursements rates. You may also want to ask about your deductible before you are able to receive a reimbursement.

Please be advised in most cases, insurance providers require a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement which I would be required to submit and may have consequence as it stays on your medical records. Working without insurance ensures greater privacy and provides you with more decision over your own treatment.

  • I speak conversational Mandarin and can relate with someone in an informal setting but am limited in my professional vocabulary when it comes to conducting therapy solely in Mandarin. I work well with those who are bilingual or are able to supplement sessions with some English.

That said, I encourage expressions of colloquial sayings or thoughts and feelings that are unique to Mandarin (or whatever your birth language is) as a way to promote self-expression and to deepen your exploration.

  • Therapy works best with regular, consistent sessions. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice for any session, you will be charged your normal fee, unless we can reschedule within the same business week. If you’re running late, please let me know. A session that is delayed by 10 or more minutes with no prior notice will be considered a no-show and you will be charged your normal fee.

I am away from the office between six and eight weeks per year and will tell you at least two weeks in advance of any anticipated absences. If needed, I will provide you with the contact information of a therapist who will be available to you during the time I am away.
